365-Day Visa-Free Entry (Government of Georgia Ordinance No. 255 of 5 June 2015)
Open. Citizens of roughly 95 countries, including the EU/EEA, UK, US, Canada, Australia, Japan, the Gulf states, Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, can enter without a visa and stay 365 days per entry. The Remotely from Georgia digital nomad programme, launched in 2020, is effectively redundant as a result. There is no confirmation that it is still being actively administered.
A full year per entry, resettable with a single border crossing, is the most generous visa-free regime of any country in the region. It removes the need for a residence permit for most practical purposes. That is why Georgia absorbed a large share of the 2022 relocation wave with almost no administrative friction.

- VISA-FREE DAYS ARE NOT RESIDENCE. These days count toward the 183-day tax residency threshold, but they build nothing toward permanent residence or naturalisation. You could spend a decade in Georgia visa-free and be no closer to a passport than you were on day one.
- STAYING BUILDS A TAX PROBLEM, NOT A TAX SOLUTION. Pass 183 days and you become a Georgian tax resident. Any work you do while sitting in Georgia counts as Georgian-source income, taxable at 20% unless you hold Small Business Status. Long visa-free stays are where people accidentally create the very liability they came to avoid.
- IT IS AN ORDINANCE, NOT A TREATY. The list lives in a government ordinance, which can be amended without notice. Georgia has changed it before.
- Starting 1 January 2026, every foreign national entering Georgia, including those arriving visa-free, must carry travel medical insurance covering at least GEL 30,000 for the full length of their stay (Decree No. 602, 26 December 2025).
- Sources disagree on whether the entitlement runs 365 days per entry or 365 days within a rolling window. The ordinance, and the balance of evidence, support per-entry. Even so, border officers keep discretion over re-entry after a long stay, and visa-run patterns tend to draw questions.
